Shoptimized stats and impact on CRO

What is Shoptimized?

Shoptimized is a company which specialises in helping like-minded e-commerce business, to share and gain insights on how to best market and grow their online stores.

First founded in 2015, the Shoptimized brand quickly gained attention after clients were achieving double, sometimes triple, growth in under 12 months. Other businesses wanted the same for themselves, which saw the beginning of Shoptimized CRO training.

Since then, Shoptimized has also developed a Shopify theme, to help business owners easily implement the conversion rate optimisation features without having to learn all of the theory behind it. The theme already has all of the CRO tools built in, removing the need for multiple third-party apps which makes it great for business owners who want a hassle-free website management theme. Shoptimized is for both experienced and new business owners, with different subscription services for agencies, small businesses, entrepreneurs and online retailers.

Why is conversion rate optimisation so important?

Conversion rate optimisation affects buyer behaviour

When looking at conversion rate, it’s all about numbers, and how these numbers change when certain aspects of website design and development are tweaked.

Before we look at some of the conversion optimisation features that the Shoptimized theme uses, let’s look at the stats which summarise a typical user interaction with an e-commerce website.

  • A 1-second delay can cause up to a 7% decrease in conversion
  • A 2-second delay on mobile decreases conversions by 27%
  • 64% of users begin to think about shipping costs on the product page before they decide to purchase
  • 61% of users are likely to abandon carts if there are unexpected costs in the checkout process
  • 18% of users abandon carts because they do not trust websites with their card information
  • Personalised CTAs perform 202% better than general CTA buttons or forms
  • The colour red consistently outperforms (see studies here)the colour green when using CTA buttons
  • CTA buttons which are free from distractions can see a 232% increase in conversion rate
  • Conversion rates can increase up to 32% if the CTA is optimised for mobile devices
  • Desktop users (47%) are more likely to fill in a form compared to mobile users (42%)

How does the Shoptimzed Theme help conversion rate?

Watch the video below to see a quick summary of what Shoptimized is all about…

Let’s go into detail about some of the things that make Shoptimized great

Speed

The Shoptimizer Theme has a 91% speed grade on Page Speed Insights, 100% on Google Lighthouse and 96% on GTmetrix. Data shows that a 1-second delay can cause up to a 7% decrease in conversions. When every second counts, it is important that Shopify themes are fast, and Shoptimized uses this as one of their main selling points.

The speed of the theme also has a positive knock-on effect on the SEO of the e-commerce site, as there will be overall better loading times, user experience, and engagement.

Design

While the Shoptimized theme prioritises user experience through fast loading times and a seamless experience- design elements are also well thought out for CRO. While the user may not even notice, small design aspects can make a huge difference to whether a customer converts or not.

For example, the Shoptimized theme has an option for a distraction-free checkout, which removes the footer, header and navigation for a fully focused purchase experience. The user feels like they have been taken to the next step in their purchase journey which encourages them to buy and convert.

Shoptimized also provides options for extra product information and shipping costs. They understand that the user needs a fully informed purchasing journey and if they come across a surprise fee in the checkout process, they are likely to abandon their cart.

Other design aspects include sticky navigation bars, single product countdowns, sales statistics and trust badges.

All design aspects available on Shoptimised are selected to make the user feel in control, fully informed, vulnerable to trust and hooked to the site.

SEO-enhanced

There’s no point in a business owner purchasing the Shoptimized theme if it isn’t already SEO-optimised. Especially new business owners, or those who have only just set up their online store.

Firstly, the Shoptimized theme was developed mobile-first. Google now works on a mobile-first index, meaning that all the Shopify sites with a Shoptimized theme are fully search engine friendly.

The theme is also set up so that not only product pages but also category pages have featured text and keyword-rich copy for optimised features in search results.

Accessibility

The Shoptimizer theme has passed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), which are a set of technical requirements that ensure the theme is accessible to people with a range of disabilities. The theme is also tested with screen readers.

Customisation options throughout the site also mean that fonts, sizes, images, and colours can all be fine-tuned to brand guidelines and user needs.

Drawbacks of Shoptimized

Spam websites making copies of Shoptimized

Yes, there are many reasons why Shoptimized is used by tens of thousands of business owners every day and has a TrustPilot score of 4.8, but are there any repeating problems or issues that could be the downfall fo this theme against its competitors?

Being a third-party site, and not available on the Shopify store, people are sceptical about the platform and whether it is legitimate. Shoptimized themselves have had to defend their platform in the past with people thinking it is a scam. This was however due to illegal copies of the platform being created under the Shoptimized name, which created a distrust around the brand name.

Overall Shoptimized doesn’t receive too much negative criticism and has been one of the top ‘all in one’ Shopify themes for a long time.

Similar Shopify themes to Shoptimized

Shoptimized sits in a highly competitive market of CRO-based Shopify themes. Debutify and Booster are two other Shoptimized themes which offer very similar services.

Debutify vs Shoptimized

Debutify is a Shopify partner and is a conversion rate optimisation theme for Shopify-based sites. The same as Shoptimized, this theme doesn’t require any coding and is very user-friendly for beginners.

Debutify is much newer than Shoptimized, only being created in 2022. In the short time it has been up and running, the brand now has over 10,000 users and 60+ employees.

Similar to Shoptimized, Debutify also provides a training platform alongside their theme, where entrepreneurs can get together ask questions, give advice and grow their businesses together.

Where Debutify differs, is its integration with AI-powered apps. There are over 70 AI-powered conversion boosting widgets, whereas Shoptimized only states to have 30.

While the speed analytics also aren’t yet quite as impressive as Shoptimized, for new business owners, the FREE pricetag of Debutify is most likely what is causing its rapid growth. With this free plan, however many of the features, integrations and widgets are inaccessible or capped at a limit. While this free plan gets users signed up and using the platform outside of a trial period, the limited use makes it very difficult to not subscribe to the ‘growth’ plan.

Booster vs Shoptimized

Another CRO-focused Shopify theme, Booster also has a key focus on its speed analytics and advertising itself as one of the best in the market- serious competition for Shoptimized on that front.

Where Booster is different to Shoptimized, there are more choices of pre-sets to help with beginners setting up a new site. There is an option for users to start from scratch, however this push of the design aspect could really help a new user.

In all other aspects, Booster and Shoptimized are very similar… even in price.

What else does Shoptimized provide?

While Shoptimized may be very well known for creating its Shopify Theme- the company has other products and services available for conversion rate optimisation.

  • Speed optimizations service- all code fixes and improvements, image optimisations, broken links, sluggish files, app third-party code fixes etc…
  • E-com conversions- 24 module online programme, 3 live Q&A calls
  • 7-figure store blueprint- The Founder of Shoptimized includes his top tips, step-by-step, and essential apps for creating a successful e-commerce business

Is Shoptimized right for you?

Business owner setting up a Shopify account

Shoptimized is a CRO-focused Shopify theme at the pricier end of the scale. For many people this price can be justified for the mobile-first development, extremely fast loading times, SEO optimisations, support lines, and customisable platform.

For new businesses or those with little experience with Shopify themes, Shoptimized may be more than they need or want at the current stage in their business growth journey. While the many advanced features provide really good value for money all in one theme, people might be paying the pricier sum for a theme which isn’t that beginner-friendly.
