Google Have Launched New Search Feature ‘People Cards’

In the world of Google and search engine marketing, to say that the landscape is ‘ever-changing’ would be an understatement.

That’s why, today, I’m writing this post detailing another significant Google feature that has launched recently.

This new feature is people called ‘people cards’.

So, what are Google’s ‘people cards’

Launched first in India, and announced earlier this month (August), ‘people cards‘ has already begun appearing in search results for mobile users in India.

Why are people cards important?

For many reasons. For one, this will only lead to better user experience on Google. However, from a marketing point of view – this is ideal for building personal brands.

This new search engine feature will allow easier access to ‘knowledge panels‘ so that users can be clued upon a person at the simple search of a name. Ultimately, from a search of a name, employers, customers, clients and more will be able to see everything you want them to see.

Once individuals claim their people card, you may be able to add and edit the following for users to see upon searching your name:

  • Personal bio
  • Occupation
  • Employer
  • Location
  • Profile avatar
  • Phone number
  • Website
  • Social Media
  • and more

Sounds great, right?

Well, unfortunately, it’s only launched in India at the moment, and Google hasn’t stated whether there will be a larger roll out across the globe anytime soon.

More on the people cards update, by SearchEngineLand:

  • Google has been experimenting with this feature at least since February.

  • To create a people card, users must sign into their Google account and search for their own name or “add me to search” and click on the “Get started” button. Each Google account is limited to one people card and a phone number is required for authentication.

  • Multiple modules will appear in the search results for people who share the same name.

  • People cards can be deleted by their owners at any time.
