Embryo raises £1,260 and donates 120 meals to Manchester Central Foodbank in 12-mile sponsored walk

Embryo is delighted to have raised £1,260 for Manchester Central foodbank with their latest charity day. The challenge involved carrying 90kg of donated food products on a 12-mile walk across Greater Manchester before dropping off the donations at two food banks in the city.

This latest fundraising initiative has taken the overall team fundraising to over £5,700 and 76% of the annual company target.

“When we chose Manchester Central Foodbank as our 2024 charity partner we wanted to make sure we went above and beyond to raise significant sums of money for this important cause,” said Hannah Matthewman, Head of Brand at Embryo.

She added: “Seeing the team come together to decide how to raise money and then watching them organise and execute it has been really rewarding.”

With their backpacks filled with 90 kg of food and toiletries ready to donate, the 15 members of Embryo who took part in this charity day left the office at 9 am and began walking with their first stop being Harpurhey Neighbourhood Project in Monsall.

After dropping off a portion of the food there, the team walked through Failsworth and Moston coming back into town to the second and final stop at St Peter’s House on Oxford Road.

One of the team members who took on the challenge, Megan Atkinson, had this to say: “It was really rewarding for the whole team to be able to see first-hand how our fundraising and donations will impact the charity.

“In total, we walked 19km (12 miles) and stopped at two of the foodbank locations where we were able to meet the incredible volunteers. They told us that our food donations were enough to provide around 120 emergency meals.”

Manchester Central Foodbank is on the frontline of fighting poverty in the area. With 1 in 5 of the UK population living below the poverty line their work to ensure people in Greater Manchester don’t go hungry is more important than ever.

As well as the money raised, which will go towards MCF’s ongoing fight against poverty, the 90 kgs of food donated by everyone at Embryo equated to approximately 120 meals, which will be given directly to those in need.

Earlier in the year, members of Team Embryo raised £2,255 by completing a hike across the Peak District and £1,057 by carrying out a beach clean-up in Southport.

Combined with other ad-hoc donations, Embryo has raised £5,708 so far this year with another charity initiative in November still to happen.
