Embryo and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity Partnership!

It has almost been a year since Embryo had the pleasure of becoming the charity partner of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH), an organisation that does vital work helping some of the illest children across Greater Manchester.

It’s fair to say it has been a busy year of fundraising, with #TeamEmbryo taking part in all manner of events, some of which were pretty scary, to help raise money for RMCH.

In total, our team raised £3391.48 in 2022!

What with it being such a whirlwind 12 months of fundraising we thought we’d look back and recap some of the amazing things members of Embryo have done to raise money for RMCH!

Manchester 10k

In May, Embryo laced up their running shoes and took part in the Manchester 10k! Starting on Portland Street, directly next to our office, 20 members of Embryo survived the humid, muggy conditions to run down Great Bridgewater Street, escape the city, round Old Trafford, and then back down the Bridgewater Way to a heroes welcome down Deansgate!

Some walked, some jogged, some ran, and in the case of our MD Ross sprint non-stop, all that mattered though was that everyone took part and raised a fantastic amount of money for RMCH. In total, we raised £2,360 for the hospital making the sore legs on Monday morning all worth it.

Bungee Jump

In May, Sam went to new heights to raise money for RMCH and jumped a massive 300 feet, from a crane, for a charity bungee jump!

The daring feat took place at Tatton Park on a beautifully crisp day for a fantastic cause. Well done Sam!

Abseil

Grace and Amy from #TeamEmbryo reached new heights in September when they got in the lift to go up to the very top of Hyatt Regency, only to go down it in a slightly quicker fashion… via abseil!

These two brave legends clipped on and abseiled down the 19-storey building, which equated to 170ft before landing back on terra firma in a few minutes’ time. The original abseil was due to take place on Sunday 26th June but windy conditions meant they had to wait two and a half months. That long, long wait, however, didn’t put them off and Grace and Amy managed to raise £390 for RMCH.

The Lantern Walk

In early November, members of Embryo took part in Humphrey’s Lantern Walk in the beautiful surroundings of Heaton Park. Comprised of two routes – a 2.5k and 5k route – the walk took in some of Heaton Park’s most stunning landmarks such as Heaton Hall, The Temple and the gardens.

Christmas Jumper Day

December 9th sees the return of Christmas Jumper Day! On that Friday, Embryo will be donning their loudest, brightest, and most garish (the more garish, the better!) Christmas knits, again, all to raise money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

RMCH Christmas Carol service in the city

The RMCH will be hosting a Christmas Carols in the City event on the 15th of December at 7pm. Billed as a chance to ‘celebrate the festive season in style, in the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral’, the evening will feature local choirs from across Greater Manchester including Manchester Grammar School, The Hammond and Manchester High School for Girls.

Families can attend for £30 (2 adults 2 children) with adult tickets costing £12 and £6 for children and concessions.

About RMCH

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital’s history can be traced back 193 years where, for over a century and a half, they provided care and cures to three different hospitals across the city. Fast forward to 2022, and RMCH now have one home on Oxford Road alongside the other Manchester University Hospitals.

RMCH is, simply, the biggest and busiest children’s hospital in the UK treating and curing infants right the way through to teenagers. The hospital is made up of 371 beds and 60 neonatal cots and is able to deliver joined-up services and treatments for families from Greater Manchester and beyond.
