Digital Agency: What Makes The Ideal Team?
Working at a digital agency is all about teamwork, particularly here at Embryo – over the past year things have been… different, but we’ve taken everything in our stride and adapted to all of the changes and challenges we’ve faced. Of course, there are a few things that have allowed us to smash every ball that’s been pitched at us right out of the park, but few things go as far as hard work and having the best team in the game. With that in mind – here’s a bit of a rundown on what we think helps to make the perfect team at a digital agency.
Different characters keep things flowing
One of the unique things here at Embryo is the way that we integrate different characters into our teams – in fact, I’d go as far as saying this is one of our biggest strengths! Within our teams, we’ve got a huge mix of different personalities, and it creates the perfect environment for each of us to thrive within. From quiet analytical thinkers to our louder and more outspoken personality types, our brainstorms are filled with flowing ideas from all sides and our client strategies always lean on our strengths to maximise our value at all times.
Across our teams, we find that giving each person the space and platform to be themselves and work in the way that best suits them to be a key principle. If you prefer to be social and bounce ideas of others, then you’ll have the chance to do so, whereas those who prefer to focus by themselves also have the option to do that too – it’s all about giving our team the options to hit their potential each day.
Dedication and hard work always come out on top at a digital agency
No matter what your personality type is, one thing you’ll always need to be a top team player is a hard-working mentality – it’s never easy working in a fast-paced environment, but if you’re willing to work hard and operate as part of the team, you’re on the right path. At Embryo, we never let hard work go unnoticed either, so if you’re putting in the hours, you can be sure that you’ll get hyped up to the max, which is a really great feeling and it makes those long hours really worth it when you feel the results in your client’s performance metrics.
At Embryo, our aptly named ‘Above and Beyond’ Slack channel is where all of the celebrations happen, with members of the team dropping in their praises for colleagues across the company on a daily basis. From the smallest things such as sharing positive news to celebrating our bid client wins, our ‘Above and Beyond’ chat has got to be one of the most wholesome slack channels in the world!
In addition to this, the Embryo Values award is given to one of our team members each month to celebrate the one person that we really feel has embraced Embryo culture the most recently. Each team member has a vote to cast, and a box to write a little explanation for their choice, then the final winner is given a huge shoutout in our monthly whole team meeting and a reward worthy of the status too.
All great teams have to communicate and that’s amplified here at Embryo. One of our key focuses is to make sure that every team member is kept in the loop with all client communications. Whether it’s a phone call, a meeting, or an email chain, you never know where you might miss a key detail, so by keeping communications frequent, we ensure that we’re on top of everything that we need to be in control of.
On top of client communications, we also place huge importance on the social aspects of working at a digital agency, even when we’re working from home. Through the use of Slack, emails, and video calls, our team keep in touch regularly, with lots of different channels to chat about a wide variety of different things. One of our most recent, and most popular, channels is the fantastic ‘What’s For Tea’ chat, where we all compete to see who had the day’s best evening meal – take my word for it, the debate gets heated. Speaking of heated debates, one of our best social chats of the week comes at the end of the day each Friday, where our team compete against each other in an on-the-buzzer game of riddles. With just three riddles to play for between a team of over 35 people, stakes are high and competition is ferocious. To make things even spicier, we’ve even set up a leaderboard to track who has the best riddle answering skills in the team!
All of these things may seem small and insignificant, but it’s the little things that really do make a difference at a digital agency such as Embryo.
