Facebook Ads in Review? Here’s What to Do
We’ve all found our Facebook ads at some point stuck in the dreaded ‘review’ stage. You could nail the guidelines for your ads but Facebook still finds a way to reject them. For some people this can be the most infuriating thing during peak demand periods, however, there’s not a lot you can do about it yourself to try and turn this decision over.
At Embryo, we understand your frustrations as we have lived and breathed through this process ourselves. If you’re unsure of what actions you can take to speed up the ad review on Facebook, follow our handy guide below. Sometimes these steps still aren’t enough, if that sounds like you, get in touch with us at 0161 327 2635 or email us at [email protected].
What Happens in the Facebook Ad Review Process?
Like all other platforms, Facebook’s internal ad system works how you would think, before your ads can start rolling out to the public they need to go through an approval process where they will assess if your ad complies with all their policies before changing the ad status from ‘in review’ to ‘active.
In terms of what this looks like – it relies heavily on an automated process where it scans through your text, image/videos, and your destination URL. If any of these flag in their system your ad will more than likely be rejected. Read our guides to Facebook ad creative to find out what formats you can use and how to make scroll-stopping content.
This normally takes up to 30 minutes however there are some cases where your ads can be in review for up to 24 hours. This can be prolonged further if your ads are rejected and you have to go through the request process again.
What to Do With Rejected Ads
Your ads may be rejected due to various reasons like misleading claims, third-party infringement and other reasons that you can find out about through our guide to Facebook Ads Not Delivering.
So what should you do if you find your ads have been rejected? Well once you have seen the ad status switch to ‘rejected’ you know that you can message support to find out why the reasoning is not clear.
Contact Facebook Support
If you think your ad has been wrongly rejected the best way to tackle this is to get in touch with Facebook support and you can do this here. You can chat with a Meta Marketing Pro who will be able to assist you through the process, the key thing to remember here is to provide as much context as you can. If you think you don’t go against the policy you need to be very clear as to why you are not breaking it.
Sometimes it can be as simple as the automation making an error and can be resolved very quickly, but if you find that it’s more complex than that then to benefit yourself you need to be as clear as you can when providing them the information they will need to pass this on to their internal review team.
What Happens in the Re-Review for Rejected Ads?
We mentioned above that the initial process when it comes to getting your ads approved is heavily automated, well, when it comes to rejected ads this approach switches and the human aspect of the re-review process takes over. Facebook has a team dedicated to reviewing ads from all over the world.
Like we said previously, by getting into contact with support you’re able to provide context and can justify why your ad shouldn’t be rejected as you don’t fall outside of the Facebook ad guidelines.
For example, you could be an ecommerce business selling the usual bits like furniture and you could be offering 0% finance on this product. So to promote this you have inserted this information in your creative for your ad. Now Facebook’s automated system would flag this and actually reject the ad as it thinks you’re going against their financial products and services policy. However, you are not advertising a financial product you are promoting your product.
This can be a grey area to Facebook and will rely heavily on you supplying context and background to the Meta Support Pro who will be able to pass this information on to the person reviewing your ad. We can’t guarantee this will work every time, but if you do notice a recurring issue it may be best to avoid the language or graphics in future ads.
Ads Aren’t Rejected but Still in Review?
Sometimes there are issues with the ads platform that are just out of our control. Your ad may not be rejected but could be stuck ‘in review’ for longer than 24 hours. It can be a glitch so to say and it may just take you duplicating the ad and relaunching it for it to work. This may not work every time but from our experience, it does the job – just remember to turn the original ad off after you’ve launched the duplicate ad. If the problem persists contact Facebook support.
If this isn’t the case, as you’ve got your ads to launch but they aren’t delivering – read our guide on why your Facebook ads aren’t working for more information.
