18 goal ideas for 2025
The new year is fast approaching, and for many is the perfect opportunity for a reset, a fresh start and new beginnings. In the UK, 74% of people will be making a resolution for 2025, with the majority focusing on money and health goals.
How long does it take for a habit to stick?
Different numbers circulate on how long it takes for a new goal to become a routine habit, but in reality, it is different for everyone. If you really want to achieve your goal, having a mindset focused on how quickly you can achieve this might just put you back a few steps.
Setting goals
However, many people do fall victim to setting huge January New Year resolutions and then falling back into old habits by the start of February, or even sooner!
The key to setting a goal is making them aspirational, but achievable at the same time. Here at Embryo, we use the SMART method when setting our goals:
Specific
Clearly define your goal and include as much detail as possible including why you want to achieve it
Measurable
Write down your goals so that they become set. Include metrics that you are going to measure if you have achieved your goal
Achievable
Keep them small and manageable. Assess if you have the tools to complete this goal
Realistic
Be realistic about what you want to achieve and align it with larger goals in your life
Time
Set a time scale or target date in which you want to achieve your goal
All of the following goals may seem small, but that’s the whole point of making them achievable. Breaking down large goals into smaller milestones makes them more achievable and easier to keep momentum going. Small incremental improvements take the pressure off having to see the results of a huge goal all at once.
Let’s take a look at some of the goals you could set for 2025…
Career goals
Learn a new professional skill- Expand your knowledge and use free online resources to branch out into new skills. This could be to help with your day-to-day or be a new skill altogether.
Develop your professional network- Plan ahead and get booked into social and networking events.
Improve a core skill- This could include your time management, organisation, focus, or professional speaking.
Earn a certificate or qualification- Online courses and webinars can be a great way to learn a new skill for free.
Physical wellbeing goals
Stay hydrated- The NHS recommends drinking between 6-8 glasses of water per day. Having a bottle of water with a timescale can help to keep you on track in the day.
Meal plan weekly- Many people choose to eat more mindfully in the new year, and meal planning can be a huge help in this. Prepping food in advance.
Join a new club- While a new club doesn’t have to be physical, joining a sports club is great for both mental and physical health.
Prioritise sleep- Set a sleep schedule by creating a night routine to wind down before sleep. This could include not drinking coffee past a certain time, putting screens away or going to bed earlier.
Mental wellbeing goals
Limit screen time- While limiting screen time has great health benefits, being away from social media apps can help you unwind from the often unrealistic life standards.
Read more books- Reading books could replace the time spent behind a screen (two goals in one!). This goal is great if you want to build your vocabulary, enhance creativity, build knowledge and can improve your attention span.
Start a journal- Journaling can seem overwhelming, but this could be as simple as writing down a few sentences a day. This can help to put the whole day into perspective, allow reflection, prevent overthinking and help you to sleep better.
Practice gratitude- Similar to keeping a journal, you could also write down a few sentences of what you are grateful for. This helps with keeping an overall positive mindset when the day might have seemed negative.
Travel goals
Explore local- Travelling doesn’t have to mean you catch a flight. Why not explore the local towns near you or go and try new shops/restaurants you haven’t been to before?
Staycation more- UK staycations are becoming increasingly popular and can be a good way to reset without going abroad. Booking.com and Airbnb are the top sites for finding accommodation to suit all.
Weekend city breaks- If the country air isn’t your thing, why not catch the train to explore attractions in a new city.
Sustainability goals
Reduce food waste- By planning your food shops in advance, you can be sure to not buy anything you already have or don’t need.
Buy sustainable- Make conscious decisions to be more sustainable when buying food, clothes and household items. For example, buying loose fruit and veg instead of plastic-wrapped.
Cut down on fast fashion- Platforms like Vinted are a great way to find pre-loved clothing, and also get money for clothes you would otherwise throw away.
