The Top 3 TikTok Trends of 2022 & Predictions for 2023

So, TikTok has had an amazing year in terms of growth, it’s grown its users by 322 million from Q4 of 2021 compared to Q3 of 2022.

In true TikTok style, users have been creating content which essentially is like Spotify’s wrapped and created a TikTok trend-wrapped up for 2022!

These videos are very engaging but they also let you remind yourself what we’ve enjoyed throughout the year. Take a look at the below example as I think they’ve summed up some of the key ones perfectly!

2022 TikTok Trends

So, if you haven’t had a chance to look at the video, I’m going to go explore some of my favourites.

I Don’t Know My Fruits

I think we can all remember how viral this sound went. Now if we look into the results this TikTok was very successful and I’ll tell you why.

Results on the original post

  • 42 million views.
  • 5.8 million likes.
  • 24.6 thousand comments.
  • 260 thousand saves.
  • 33.1 thousand shares.

Now if we look into the sound itself, this sound has been used in at least 49.2 thousand videos. Just think of the reach and traction this video has gained! Amazing results and exposure for Max Fosh.

ButterTok

Now this creator consistently produces his content and doesn’t shy away from his niche. In my opinion, he has successfully built up his community through his niche which is no wonder why his videos are also reaching thousands and millions of views.

By now and by the header of this section you should know ButterTok took a lot of us by storm, from the way Thomas Straker makes and cooks with so many different variations of butter to creating his perfect butter quenelles.

In one video he achieved:

  • 16.5 million views.
  • 835 thousand likes.
  • 154.2 thousand saves.
  • 16.6 thousand shares.

Now it’s whether you’re saving so you can at a later date recreate his butter or you just find his video satisfying to watch, whatever the reason, people are enjoying his content which can explain why he has 1.6 million followers and 28.9 million likes overall across his videos.

It’s Corn! Interview

I think we can all agree that this video had us all singing about corn wherever and whenever.

The original interview on TikTok resulted in:

  • 1.2 million views.
  • 209.5 thousand likes.
  • 38.2 thousand saves.
  • 20.2 thousand shares.

However, there is no surprise that the creative people on the platform saw this as an opportunity to remix and create their own spin on this viral interview. In particular, 1 remixed sound has had 1.4 million videos using their new sound. If we look into just 1 of those TikTok’s using the new remix sound, they achieved:

  • 85 million views.
  • 10.7 million likes.
  • 75.6 thousand comments.
  • 1.2 million saves.
  • 1 million shares.

It clearly pays to reinvent in popular TikTok’s as the difference in these 2 results, one being the original interview and another remix, people clearly favour one video.

TikTok 2023 Trends Report

If you’re looking for predictions of new trends to take the app by storm next year, then, of course, you’re going to want to hear it from the experts at TikTok. They’ve recently released their 2023 Trend Report where they look into 3 trends they think will be popular over the next 12 months.

So, let’s get into them!

Actionable Entertainment

For this trend, they’ve used Elf cosmetics as an example. Now this one is different as this isn’t meant for brand visibility or organic purposes but this is for brands who are looking to advertise on the platform. If you’re creating content TikTok has found that you will get the best results if you disguised your ad as entertainment, and look to make the user laugh, watch and consume content.

In TikTok’s 2023 Trends report, they stated that Elf cosmetics managed to reduce their costs for their add-to-cart campaign by 56%. Just by creating video content that makes you feel like you’re watching an ordinary TikTok and not an ad.

Making space for joy

Another trend they’ve predicted will continue on in 2023 is that you’re looking to enlighten someone and make them feel like your videos are a way to escape their reality.

You’re looking for your videos to install:

  • Humour
  • Serenity
  • Knowledge
  • Relatability
  • Mindfulness
  • Self Care

In the report, TikTok has found that ‘meme culture’ is a huge driver for growth and there is no question about that as throughout the years of reality TV and big shows like I’m a celebrity and celebrity big brother that this created trend.

If you’re looking to jump on this trend, look at any life hacks you can suggest this would be great if brands are able to show viewers how their products can help them in their day-to-day life. Which will answer your consumer’s pain points but in an engaging way.

Community-Built Ideals

There will be a massive push on creating your own community that goes to you to consume your content. Essentially you should look to reach high-quality audiences rather than reaching any Tom, Dick and Harry.

The community you look to build should be interactive and look to share their comments amongst others on the platform through your comments section or dueting your videos.
