Embryo Welcomes: Mike, Callum & Thom

New year, new Embryo, new employees *yaaaaaay*! This month we’ve welcomed 3 new members to our team, Mike, Callum and Thom, of whom you may have already noticed on our site or seen a blog posted by one of them, well now the time has come to introduce this dynamic trio! Mike is joining us as our new Commercial Director, Callum as our brand new Paid Media Manager, and Thom as a new SEO Account Manager. I asked our guys the 6 questions you will see below, let’s see what they answered:

1. What’s your name and where do you come from? (Blind Date style)

Callum: My name is Callum, and I’m from Macclesfield.

Mike: I’m Mike, and I’m originally from Hertfordshire, although after 17 years in Manchester, I would say this is now firmly my home.

Thom: I’m Thom, I moved over to Manchester from the East Midlands, via North Wales, Leicester and Sheffield.

2.  Out of everything you do, what do you like to do?

Mike: I love playing basketball, I could literally play all day. I’m also a big fan of snowboarding, riding bikes and nature, I love mountains. My favourite thing is to be outdoors exploring with my kids.

Thom: I enjoy the gym, reading – especially history and current affairs, and days out in Manchester exploring my new home!

Callum: I like going to music events, so aim to go to as many as I can. Unpopular opinion, but I love watching horror movies.

3. What were you doing in your life before Embryo Digital?

Thom: I was based in Sheffield, working in SEO there. But my first ever job was on a farm – a long way from the digital world! I still enjoy being outsides and love to get out of the city and into the Peaks.

Callum: I was working for Point Blank Digital in Macclesfield, senior account manager vibes.

Mike: I have worked in Marketing Agencies for nearly 10 years now, prior to that I have walked in various shoes, from working in ski resorts to working on boats, running face to face marketing campaigns, working on the family business AND also as an Actor!

4. Do you have any notable and/or odd skills?

Callum: I can down a pint really fast. I’m also well tall (I can confirm that this is true).

Mike: I would say more random skills, I can kickflip a skateboard or learn a long piece of script very easily. I think I have a few more things to discover yet!

Thom: I enjoy writing, and luckily it’s a skill I can use in my work.

5. What sets you apart from the rest of the industry?

Mike: Probably my experience outside of agencies working in different fields and different places. I think my years working on activation on face-to-face marketing campaigns gives me a wider viewpoint rather than just thinking digital.

Thom: I can talk for England! Communicating, engaging and helping raise understanding is so important for both clients and teams, it can add a lot to the outcomes of campaigns, and build strong teams and successful projects.

Callum: Attention to detail. I’m very analytical and always like to do granular solid optimisation and transparency.

6. Finally, give us your favourite ‘fun fact’…

Thom: The term “Big Cheese”, as in ‘Ross is the Big Cheese at Embryo”, actually has nothing to do with cheese or dairy products. It comes from ‘chiz’, an Urdu world for ‘thing’ and arrived in English via Indian Colonists.

Callum: Dolphins “deliberately get high” on puffer fish nerve toxins by carefully chewing and passing them around!

Mike: All humans came from fish. We are fish out of water.

That’s everything you probably need to know about our guys – for now! Here’s a photo of the 3 of them below looking pensive, probably thinking about dolphins eating cheese out of water. Maybe.
